There’s a not-so-secret secret out there to replenish sunken cheeks, plump up lips, and fill in wrinkles. For those who don’t know, facial fillers in The Woodlands give you natural, age-defying results that’ll have you coming back for more!
But before you book your first appointment, it’s important to know exactly what facial fillers are. There’s a lot of misinformation and rumors swirling around the web that it could be hard to know what’s true and what’s not.
Fortunately at Medical Aesthetics & Laser, we pride ourselves on being experts in all things facial fillers. To learn more, keep reading for your ultimate facial filler guide, and you might even become a mini expert yourself 😉
What facial fillers are not…
First and foremost, facial fillers are not Botox, and Botox is not a facial filler. Many people use the terms synonymously, but the two work in completely different ways.
For one, Botox is a neurotoxin that prevents wrinkles that stem from squinting, frowning, and smiling. It works by inhibiting the chemical that triggers muscle contractions. When your muscles can’t move, they can’t cause wrinkles.
Then what are facial fillers?
We’re so glad you asked. Facial, or dermal fillers, in The Woodlands are a type of injectable usually made up of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in your body.
Hyaluronic acid is like the superhero of skin care, except there’s no cape or tights—just amazing skin rejuvenation. It fights against visible signs of aging by replenishing moisture and boosting collagen production (we’ll go into more detail about this later).
Therefore, hyaluronic-based facial fillers are great for treating facial volume lost by filling in wrinkles, plumping hollow cheeks, and replenishing sunken eyes. Plus, they can even be used in your lips to give you a fuller look.
Collagen, collagen, and more collagen
You’ve probably heard about the wonders of collagen for your skin, but let us explain why it really matters.
Collagen, along with elastin, are fibers that lie in your dermis (bottom layer of skin). Collagen fibers create a framework for your skin so that it stays tight and wrinkle-free. Elastin allows your skin to bounce back to avoid sagging and skin laxity.
That all sounds great, right? Well, here’s the catch.
Over time, collagen and elastin breaks down, and your body decreases the production of those fibers. The main culprit behind the destruction is, you guessed it, the sun.
Harmful UVA and UVB rays penetrate the skin with ionizing radiation, which damages the skin. You may not have noticed the effects of too much fun in the sun right away, but after you hit your mid 20s the sun damage may have become clearer. As the years pass, the lack of collagen and elastin leads to deeper wrinkles, sagging skin, and facial volume loss. Before you know it, you may wake up one day and not only feel older, but look older too.
Now cue in facial fillers.
Facial fillers in The Woodlands helps to reverse the negative effects of collagen deficiency by injecting hyaluronic acid directly into your skin. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance in your body that helps to replenish moisture. When injected into your skin, it draws water to collagen molecules, making your face look instantly fuller.
Hyaluronic acid can also increase levels of Type I procollagen, which is the precursor to mature collagen fibers. That means that even after your fillers dissolve, your body will continue building a framework for younger, fresher-looking skin.
Can’t I use a cream or take supplements for collagen?
Well, technically you can, but you’re probably not going to notice any real difference. The tricky thing about collagen is that the molecules are fairly large. So with supplements like powders or pills, those molecules may not be able to break through the bloodstream barrier for your body to actually absorb them. You may end up absorbing some amounts, but the results won’t be nearly as noticeable as getting facial fillers in The Woodlands.
There are studies that claim collagen supplements can improve skin laxity and reduce wrinkles. Other studies say that supplements can improve bone health and joint pain. If your body could actually absorb enough collagen, that could very well be true. But here’s the thing: a lot of studies are small and were funded by companies that create those products.
With creams, it’s even trickier. Actually, just avoid them; they don’t work. Remember how we said collagen fibers are found in the dermis? That means a collagen cream would have to penetrate through the epidermis (top layer of skin) then reach the dermis. Collagen molecules in those creams are simply too big to do that. You’ll end up having collagen just sitting on top of your skin with nowhere to go.
Questions to ask before getting facial fillers
A big thing we like to emphasize is to always, always, always do your research. The obvious reason? Well, this is your face we’re talking about, and it’s not like you can hide it if you end up getting a botched service.
To get the results you’re after, it’s incredibly important to ask questions before you book an appointment for facial fillers. The last thing you want is to end up looking swollen and puffy because you went to the wrong facility.
What kind of facial fillers does a med spa offer?
Some places will generally say they have facial fillers in The Woodlands without identifying which fillers they use. Other than that being absolutely useless, generalizations are also a big red flag, and it could be a sign that they’re using off-brand fillers that aren’t safe whatsoever.
At Medical Aesthetics & Laser, we use Juvéderm products, which are hyaluronic acid-based injectable fillers that instantly erase wrinkles and enhance your lips, cheeks, and other natural features (hold tight, we’ll talk about in detail them later).
What experience does the med spa have?
You don’t want to go to a med spa or other facility with little to no experience, leaving you with not-so-great-looking fillers. For the best results, you want to go somewhere with trained medical professionals who know exactly what to do to enhance your natural beauty.
Humble brag moment: We only choose the best, most experienced aestheticians and professionals at Medical Aesthetics & Laser. Our team is led by Dr. Reeves who has spent years mastering aesthetic procedures.
Does the facility offer consultations?
We definitely don’t recommend booking an appointment with a facility that won’t meet with you to discuss our needs first. There’s no way to create a proper injection plan without having an in depth conversation about your goals and your current skincare routine.
Does the facility showcase before and after photos on its website?
You can’t necessarily try before you buy when it comes to facial fillers in The Woodlands, but you can see what results other people have received. A great facility will have no problem showing off their hard work. If you don’t see any before and afters, the biggest question you should ask is why? Often times it means a facility is too new to have results (meaning little experience) or they aren’t proud of the filler injections they’ve performed.
Types of facial fillers in The Woodlands
As skin experts who focus on anti-aging techniques, we highly recommend facial fillers if you truly want to gain the best results. When you get facial fillers at Medical Aesthetics & Laser, you’ll get an individualized treatment that is catered to your specific needs and goals.
Juvederm XC replaces the hyaluronic acid your skin has lost over time to smooth smile lines and vertical lip lines, bringing back youthfulness and volume to your face.
An injectable filler for the lip area, Juvederm Volbella provides amazing improvement in the lip contour, boosting volume, smoothing vertical creases (smoker’s lines), and achieving symmetry. Volbella is a wonderful filler for creating natural-looking lip volume while avoiding an overfilled or “swollen” look.
JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC
Juvéderm Vollure XC is injected into the areas of facial tissue with moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the “parentheses lines” around the nose and mouth.
Thanks to its thicker texture, Juvederm Voluma is an FDA-approved injectable hyaluronic acid gel that instantly adds volume to the cheek area for a fuller, youthful appearance.
Think of Radiesse as a filler with an extra anti-aging kick. This injectable filler adds volume and fills in lines, folds, and wrinkles while also stimulating your body’s own production of collagen to provide results that continue to improve for a year or more after your injection 🙌
