How it Works
When you come for your appointment for a photofacial in The Woodlands at Medical Aesthetics & Laser, our specialists will go over all your questions and concerns and will prepare you for the treatment by cleansing your skin, applying an ultrasound gel, and providing proper eye protection. The treatment will begin with the specialist guiding the Forever Young BBL handpiece over the treatment area. Most patients describe this sensation as a rubber band snapping on the skin as the light is absorbed by your skin.
Unlike lasers which rely on one or two wavelengths of energy to operate, the Forever Young BBL device makes use of broadband light particles that can target several layers of skin for even more benefits. The pulsed light beams are able to repair surface skin and the deeper dermis, while isolating and protecting healthy cells. The heat produced in the skin by the light also stimulates your body’s natural collagen production system, restoring volume and giving you a lit-from-within glow.
Before your Forever Young BBL photofacial in The Woodlands, you should:
- Avoid sun exposure, either naturally or through the use of tanning beds (including self-tanning methods) for at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment.
- Avoid products containing retinol, Retin-A, glycolic acid, and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) for at least one week prior to your treatment.
- Discontinue use of aspirin, ibuprofen, and other anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medications for at least 3 days. If you are taking these medications under direction of a physician, you should consult with them before discontinuing.
- Tell your provider if you have been on Accutane or another product containing isotretinoin in the last year.
- If we are treating your face/neck, arrive with a bare face (cleansed with no makeup, serums, or moisturizers).
After your Forever Young BBL photofacial in The Woodlands, we recommend you:
- Use a cold compress and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication for post-treatment swelling and redness.
- Use gentle cleansers, do not rub your skin, and avoid hot water for at least 2-3 days.
- Use sunscreen (SPF 30+) and moisturizer religiously. Also consider a hat or other physical block if going into direct sunlight.
- Do not use any scrubs, exfoliants, chemicals, or topical medications on the treated area for at least a week.
The services that you have provided for me are beyond excellent. The staff and technicians have provided the best treatments and care that I have ever received. The environment that has been created in your office is warm, friendly and very comfortable. When I go for an appointment AL and the staff have a way of making me feel special. They take their time and they want to make sure that you are happy with the results.
Recently, at my annual appointment with the dermatologist, I was so very impressed and pleased. The Dr. commented on how great I was taking care of my skin. He had no idea that Allison and Kelli were taking care of my skin; I was just following their instructions with the regime they had advised! There are no professionals, or places, that I could more highly recommend than Allison and Kelli at Medical Aesthetics and Laser. My intent here is to pay it forward, just as my friend did, by her recommendation of Allison to me.
The number of treatments required to achieve the desired results varies from patient to patient. Factors to consider include the extent of damage, the size of the treatment area, your age, and more. Your Medical Aesthetics & Laser specialist will create a treatment plan that best aligns with your skin goals and desired level of improvement.
If you have significant visible sun damage and other signs of aging, and you have a light to medium skin tone, a photofacial with Forever Young BBL could be the right treatment for you. Additionally, be sure you are able to avoid direct sun exposure for several months (at least 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after your treatment).
Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding; have very dark skin tones, a deep tan, or spray tan; and/or have open sores or lesions on the treatment area should not opt for Forever Young BBL treatments.
If you have recently had a spray tan, have a tan, or have an otherwise dark complexion, a photofacial may work, but there may also be better treatment options. There are significant risks associated with performing BBL treatments on dark complexions, and you may end up with more complications than success. Discuss your options for treating your concerns with your Medical Aesthetics & Laser specialist.
A series of 3-6 treatments, spaced 2-4 weeks apart, is our standard recommendation. Occasionally, more treatments may be needed for certain individuals with particular skin conditions. Periodic occasional maintenance treatments may be prescribed for optimal, long-lasting results.
Effects of a photofacial are cumulative. After the first treatment, you will see improvements to broken capillaries, small facial veins, and some pigmented areas within a few days. Other improvements such as wrinkle reduction and toning will be more subtle and take 1-3 months. With each subsequent treatment, subtle changes will accumulate until you have achieved the improvement you desire.
Treatment costs can vary depending on your unique needs. Your Medical Aesthetics & Laser specialist will provide you with the exact cost of your photofacial procedure up front in your initial consultation. We can also accept CareCredit to cover the cost of your treatment.
